Quick Tip

Is there any way I can protect myself against forgetting my logon password?

NOTE:  You will need to have a floppy disk drive to accomplish this task as the wizard creates a passkey and reads only to this drive.  If your computer does not have one you can use an external floppy drive. Just make sure to store the disk in a safe place as this disk will only work in the computer it was created in.

TIP:  Go to Start, Control Panel: Find User Accounts and double click on it.

Next click on the Administrator Account Icon.  A User Account window will open.  In the upper left corner you will see a Related Tasks Box.  The second item in the box is PREVENT A FORGOTTON PASSWORD.  Click on it and a Wizard will open and guide you through the process of creating a passkey disk.  When complete, lock the floppy disk (window open) so that it doesn’t accidentally get erased. You only need to create this disk once, no matter how many times you change your password, it will work.

HOW TO USE:  Turn on the computer.  When the welcome screen appears, click on the green arrow next to the Administrators (owners) password box.  A message will appear asking if you forgot your password and suggesting that you use the password hint or insert the password reset disk.  When you insert the disk into the floppy drive a wizard will appear asking you to make a new password, conform it and to make a new hint.  When you complete the information, click Finish and you will now be up and running complete with a new password.  Remember, you do not have to recreate this disk and it will work no matter how many times you change your password.
