Quick Tip

013-2007

Organize the Start Menu and Change Icons.

TIP:  Go to Start >All Programs.  When menu opens, highlight any title and right click on it.  Go down the menu to Sort by Name and click on it.  This should arrange some of the titles into alphabetical order.  You will have to do the rest by the drag and drop method.  A line will appear between the titles where you can drop the title you are dragging.  Be careful not to drag and drop your program on top of another as it will go inside that programs folder and become a sub-menu.  I like to put Accessories at the top.

Next let’s change some of those folders for Icons to get a fresh look and help find our programs faster.

Right Click on any title you want to change.  When the menu appears, Click on Properties.  In the Window that opens, Click on the Customize Tab.  At the bottom of this page you will see a section called: Folder Icons.  You will also see a button: Change Icon…, Click on that.  A new window opens with a choice of many icons.  Pick the one you like for the program you are changing, Highlight it, Click OK, the window closes, and you will see your selected icon in the folder icons section.  Click OK again the window closes. Now go to Start >All Programs and you will see the folder has been replaced by the new ICON you selected.  Have Fun!
