What is Character Map and where do I find it?

TIP:  Character Map is a program installed on your computer that lets you see and use all of the characters of a font, including some special ones.  You can copy and paste or drag and drop these characters into text documents or use them in a PowerPoint presentation to make your document professional.

Character Map can be found by going to: START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > CHARACTER MAP.

When the Character Map window opens, select the font you are working with, choose the character you want in your document and then use on of these four methods to get it there.

1. Highlight the character, Click Select, Click Paste.  In your document, click where you want to put the character then Click Edit, then Paste.

2. Highlight the character, left click, hold and drag the character into your document.

3. Highlight the character; push CTRL+C on your keyboard. This puts the character on the clip board.  Open your document, place the cursor where you want the character and push CTRL+V on the keyboard.

4.  Look in the lower right corner and get the keystroke number.  Place your curser where you want the symbol, hold down the Alt key and enter the keystroke number.  The symbol you selected will appear.
