Customizing The Start Menu.
The Start Menu is divided in to four parts, two that cannot be changed (All Programs and Log Off/Shut Down), and two that can be customized to suit your preferences.
TIP:
To add a program to the left side of the Start Menu first find the Icon for that program, right click on it and on the drop down menu, click on Pin To The Start Menu. When you want to open that program from the Start Menu it will only take one click. If you want to arrange the list, click on the item, hold and drag it to where you want it in the list. If you want to delete it, right click and on the drop down menu, click on Delete.
To change the right side of the Start Menu, right click on the Start button, click on Properties. A new window will open with two tabs on it. Select the Start Menu Tab.
At the bottom you have a choice, use the default Start Menu or you may choose the Classic Start Menu. Let’s go with the default. Click on the Customize button. A new window opens with two tabs on it, General and Advanced.
On the General tab you can select the size of the Icons on your Start Menu, the number of Programs, and if you want Icons for your Internet connection or your e-mail program.
On the top of the Advanced tab you can change the Start Menu Settings to your preference. In the center is the Start Menu Items. You can scroll thru this menu and by clicking in the radio button you can change an Icons function. It can display as a Link, a Menu or you can choose not to display it at all. Each setting will effect how your Start Menu acts.
Last is the Recent Documents section. If you want to use this option, put a check mark in the box.
When you have made all your selections, click OK, OK and take a look at your new Start Menu.
