Saving Files. Were Did It Go??

Have you ever saved a file but didn’t know where it went to?

TIP:  When you create a file and want to save it, click on File and on the drop down window select Save.  A new window opens and this is where the magic happens.  The first thing you will see on top of the window is the Title Bar and it should say Save As.  On the next line you will see it says Save In.  Next to that is a small window with a drop down menu that lets you direct the location you wish the file to go to on the file tree.  You will also see small Icons on this line.  First you will see a Folder with an up arrow:  A click on this and you will go back one step on the file tree. Second you will see a Globe with a magnifying glass:  A click on this and your browser will open to the web.  Third in the line is a Folder with a star on it:  A click on this will make a new folder in the folder that you are in.  Forth in line is the View icon with a drop down arrow next to it:  This lets you select the view in the folder you are working in. Last is Tools with a drop down arrow next to it.  A click on this gives you a list of options to use.

On the left side of the Save As window you will see a list of destinations.  A click on one of these and your destination folder will be quickly selected.

At the bottom of the window you will see two windows with drop down arrows next to them.  The first one is File Name:  You will see it is highlighted and a default name has been added.  You can change this by typing in a name you want to give to this file (the default name will disappear when you start typing).  The next window is the Save As Type with a drop down menu.  This is selected by default depending on the program that created the file.  This should only be changed after you become more experienced and understand file extensions.  CAUTION: Should you change this to the wrong file extension you may not be able to open your file in the future.

Click on the Save button and your file will be saved to where you directed it to go.

If you want to change your file and maintain the original, open it, make your changes then go to File > Save As. Pick the location where you want to save it, (it can be the same folder as the original), just make sure you change the File Name. Click Save and your done.
