Gone For A Swim

Have you ever taken your MP3 player, cell phone or any other portable device thru a dunking by accidentally leaving it in your pocket?  It may have ended up in the washing machine or the swimming pool. I’ve even heard of them being dropped in a bathtub or the toilet.

TIP:  If it has a battery, remove it.  Next place the device in the center of a deep bowl filled with uncooked rice and leave it there for several hours, preferably all night. The rice will absorb the moisture. Replace the battery and you should be able to use the device again. Other substances, such as calcium oxide or silica gel, that has a high affinity for water could be used but cost a lot more than rice.
