Quick Tip

Use Automatic Logon

If you have only one user account set up on your system, you can configure your computer to skip the logon process.

TIP:

FOR WINXP:

Open the Start menu and then select Run.  Type control userpasswords2 and then click OK.  A User Account window will open. In the first tab, Users, remove the checkmark next to: Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. Click OK and you’re done. The next time you start your computer it will no longer ask you for a user name and password.

FOR VISTA:

Click on the orb to open the Start menu. Type control userpasswords2 into the Start Search box and press ENTER. Deselect the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer checkbox. Click OK.  Next, enter and confirm your password in the Automatically Log On window that appears. Click OK and you’re done.  The next time you start your computer it will no longer ask you for a user name and password.

NOTE:  It is a good idea to print these instructions and keep them for future reference in case you want to reapply the user name and password to your computer or add multiple users.
