COMPUTER CLUB

WEEKLY BULLETIN

September 27, 2008

http://cscclub.org

Greetings Computer Club Members:

There is no place like home and we enjoyed being back in the Padua Room for our meeting this past Tuesday, I also installed a new keyboard and mouse this week so it is a pleasure to once again be able to type the first time I touch a key, or have my mouse respond to the first click. Please excuse any misplaced or misspelled words last week. I am beginning to get used to an ergonomic keyboard and it is quite comfortable, but does take a little getting used to.

UPDATE ON

Mel Butler

Don Huber gave us the current update on Mel Butler this week and the news was very encouraging.

He walked up and down the Hallways with Mel and was very impressed with Mel’s progress.

We are all pulling for Mel to make a quick recovery. He has been a very vital part of our Computer Club for many years, and contributed many hours to our classrooms and special interest Groups. As well as serving 2 years as our President.

We miss all of our members who are absent from our meetings, if you know of someone who is under the weather or is caring for a family member, please tell the ladies at the check in desk when you arrive on Tuesday night. We wish all of these members and their families a speedy recovery.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THOSE

OLD WESTERNS

This is a website which combines nostalgia about Western Movies and Television Shows with information about Cowboy stars and actresses many who have passed away years ago.

There are a lot of links that take you back to the 50’s, and 60’s. Also some links to movies and music which will bring back a lot of memories. The author of this website also includes links to a lot of interesting features, including memorials to service men and women who served our Country.

The link to the Old Westerns can be found at http://objflicks.com/thoseoldwesterns.htm

As you are aware Claremont is not only a wonderful place to live but it is a wonderful place to retire, there are many opportunities to volunteer, for many of us it means learning a new skill or profession, perhaps fulfilling a dream of something we wanted to do many years ago, but were unable to obtain the education. Here in Claremont we have many opportunities to fulfill that dream, we can even attend lectures at the Colleges as an observer, for free.

Being a volunteer has many rewards, the best one is the active mind of so many seniors, which leads to healthy minds and bodies. Not to mention what your giving means to the recipient. There is no age limit!

From time to time information is passed along to me which I feel may be of interest to our Computer Club Members. This happens to be one that I feel I had to pass along to everyone on our Roster. Rose’s message follows:

City of Claremont Senior Program

Joslyn Senior Center

I am excited to announce two new volunteer opportunities working with Claremont youth:

(1) The City of Claremont's Tiny Tot Playschool needs 1-2 volunteers who love children!  The hours are from 9:30 -11:30 AM, Monday through Friday, or Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or Tuesday through Thursday.  If you enjoy reading and playing with small children, please contact Della Rhodes, Claremont Human Services (909-445-7845) to find out more about volunteering for this activity.

(2) The Teen Activity Center (TAC), located at El Roble Middle School, is looking for senior volunteers who would be willing to commit some of their time tutoring students.  Tutors are needed Monday through Thursday, from 2:15-4:00 PM at the TAC.  Subjects that youth need tutoring in include:  Math (Geometry, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1); Science (Life Science & Physical Science); Social Studies (American History & Medieval History); Language Arts; and Physical Education.  Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering for the TAC.

Thank you again for your continuing efforts in support of seniors and youth in our community.
